University of Coimbra

Coimbra University, considered among the oldest universities in the world. Was founded by King of Portugal Dinis back in 1290. The university is located in the former Royal Palace. In our days here enrolls more than 20,000 students from around the world. 

University is the largest research institution in the country. It opened eight departments that produce masters and bachelors humanitarian, technical and social sciences, medicine and law, psychology, mathematics and sports. For centuries here honored traditions and rituals, for example - a solemn procession during which graduates ribbons and burn their clothes student (cape and jacket). 

On campus, there is a huge [[library Zhuanina]]. It is located in three high halls and employs about 300,000 books period 16 - 18th centuries, which are the greatest part of history. 

Recently, the University of Coimbra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
